What You Need To Know About Laser Hair Removal

At Advanced Dermatology, we have over 20 years of experience with the Light Sheer Diode for laser hair removal treatments. Laser hair removal can help you save energy and most of all time, by removing hair in undesirable places such as your armpits, chin, legs, arms, etc. Unwanted facial hair or body care can be a big knock to your confidence, or just cause you a lot of hassle to have to maintain. With laser hair removal treatments, your unwanted hair will see significant reduction. Learn more about the hair removal treatments below.

Before & After Your Treatment

After your initial consultation where it’s determined whether laser hair removal is a good fit for you and your goals, you’ll have your first treatment session. Before your appointment, you will shave to make sure the skin’s surface melanin has no damage, but do not use a hair removsl cream (such as Nair or Veet). When you arrive for your appointment, a numbing cream may be applied to help ease some of the discomfort from the laser.

After your session, you will most likely feel some discomfort in the area(s) for a day or two. Anti-inflammatory creams, ice packs, and cool water can help soothe the discomfort. It is most commonly referred to as a similar pain to sunburn. You can schedule your next session for 4-6 week out and continue until hair removal goals are achieved.

How Does It Actually Work?

At Advanced Dermatology, we use the Light Sheer Diode which transfers energy from the laser to the hair pigment melanin, damaging the follicle, but not the skin around it. The laser is adjusted depending on the patient's skin type, thickness and color of hair, and the location of your treatment. The Light Sheer Diode laser is approved for all skin colors.

Benefits of Laser Hair Removal

If you are considering laser hair removal treatments, here are a few of the benefits you can expect:

  • Quick Treatment - each laser pulse takes about a fraction of a second.

  • Targets Several Hairs At Once - because of the quick laser pulses, we can target several hairs at once.

  • No Damaged Skin - with this technology, we are able to target the precise location of the follicle, without damaging any surrounding skin or tissue.

  • 4-8 Treatments - that is the average number of sessions for a patient to achieve permanent hair reduction, although after only one treatment you will likely notice fewer hairs.

  • Target A Variety Of Areas - including back, legs, arms, face, bikini line, underarms and more.

Possible Side Effects

Common side effects include redness, swelling, and tenderness of the area(s) that were treated. More rare side effects include scarring, changes in skin color, and blistering. Again, these are very rare side effects of the treatments.
